Inter is an open-source sans-serif font by Rasmus Andersson. This release includes 2 original font files, a variable weight range of 100–900, and 2,849 encoded characters in the default upright face. Supported subsets: cyrillic, cyrillic ext, greek, greek ext, latin, latin ext, vietnamese. Choosing and pairing this font
Design characteristics
Inter’s text designs use a tall x-height to support lowercase legibility. Its project also documents tabular figures and a slashed zero. These are useful details to check when choosing type for interfaces with prices, identifiers or statistics; availability depends on the font file and application.
Where to use it · editorial suggestions
Our suggestion: use Inter for navigation, forms and product descriptions when information needs to stay visually consistent. For a landing page with a more editorial voice, keep Inter in the supporting text and give the headline a contrasting serif.
A starting layout
Starting point: try body text at 16 px / 24 px in Regular, labels at 14 px / 20 px in Medium, and section headings at 28 px / 34 px in Semibold. Test your longest labels before tightening spacing. These are design suggestions, not requirements of the font.
What to check
Preview ambiguous strings such as Il1 and O0, along with real prices and dates. A readable alphabet sample does not prove that a compact table works. Do not assume every feature on the current Inter website is present in the downloadable version here.
Pairing suggestion
Try Playfair Display for a short headline and Inter for the body. The serif headline adds contrast while the sans-serif supporting text keeps buttons and explanations understated. Avoid using the decorative headline style for every label.
